The event will run on 23rd–26th June 2026, rather than the regular slot in July, but continuing last year’s four-day format. Amazon VP Jamil Ghani told Reuters the move was deliberate, as the company wanted to steer clear of the FIFA World Cup (running 11 June–19 July) and the 250th US Independence Day on 4 July.

From a Paid Media perspective, this date change has real implications for campaign strategy, audience warm-up windows, competitive pressure, and how you structure your budget across the event. Here’s our take on what’s actually different in 2026 and what you should be doing about it.

What’s Changed in 2026

The timeline is compressed, and that’s already caused problems

Moving Prime Day to late June means brands have had less time to build FBA inventory, warm up advertising audiences, and rack up sales velocity on hero ASINs before the event. If you haven’t been running pre-event activity for the past few weeks, you’re already entering with a cold start.

Tariffs have changed the deal maths

This is the biggest new variable for 2026 and one that doesn’t get enough attention in advertising circles. US tariffs on Chinese imports have been stacking throughout 2025 and into 2026. Average US tariffs on Chinese goods reached 57.6% by September 2025, more than double the rate at the start of that year, according to the Peterson Institute for International Economics (Kelly, 2025).

For many brands, the promotions that made commercial sense in 2025 simply don’t pencil out at the same depth this year. This matters for paid media because if you’re running without a deal, you’re paying premium Prime Day CPCs to compete against discounted products, a difficult position that requires sharper targeting and tighter budget management than in previous years.

Consumer behaviour has shifted too

Demand for Prime Day 2026 is expected to be strong, after 2025 turned out to be the biggest Prime Day ever. But financial pressure is real: one in three Prime Day shoppers say they are worried about their finances, and 55% say higher product prices could negatively affect their spending during the event (Mahoney, 2026).

The implication for paid media is straightforward. Intent remains high, but shoppers will be more deliberate and comparison-heavy than in previous years. Your campaigns need to do more than capture demand; they need to justify the purchase.

How to Prepare Your Campaigns

Get your campaign structure right

This comes first because it matters most. Scaling budget into a poorly structured account during Prime Day doesn’t produce more revenue, rather it produces more waste at a higher CPC.

Before the event, make sure your hero ASINs have isolated campaigns with their own dedicated daily budgets. If they’re sharing a campaign with your broader catalogue, your best products will be cannibalised by lower-priority inventory the moment spend picks up. That said, we’d suggest running clean category separation so your search term data remains actionable and leveraging Sponsored Brands. Competitors will be bidding aggressively on your branded terms during the event, often with deeper deals. If you’re not defending that real estate with SB campaigns, you’re handing it to them cheaply.

Spend before the auction overheats

As every retailer competes for the same shopper attention, auction pressure spills across Meta, YouTube, and Google Shopping simultaneously, and the same consumers Amazon is targeting are being fought over everywhere. The pre-event window is where your awareness budget works hardest.

Use it to build retargeting audiences on Meta and TikTok, and run awareness activity while competition is still fairly low. Ad copy that builds anticipation and drives urgency (e.g. “our biggest deal of the year drops next week”) can generate wishlist and cart activity on Amazon before advertisers start ramping up their campaigns to compete. That pre-event signal feeds the algorithm and gives campaigns a head start when the event starts.

Allocate roughly 20% of your Prime Day budget to the pre-event phase in the next couple weeks. It will likely be your most efficient spend of the entire event.

Don’t blow your budget on Day 1

A key lesson from 2025’s four-day format: Day 1 captured the highest share of total orders (around 36%), but Days 3 and 4 saw a meaningful conversion rebound, particularly for higher-consideration categories, as shoppers who had been browsing earlier in the week finally committed. Sponsored Products advertisers saw year-over-year (YoY) sales growth of 310% on Day 3 and 443% on Day 4, versus declines on the first two days compared to 2024’s two-day format (Krupa, 2025).

Brands that front-load budget and run dry by mid-flight miss a significant portion of the event’s conversion potential. Use budget rules and automated caps to pace spend across all four days.

Extend your strategy beyond Sponsored Products

Amazon advertising in 2026 is a full-funnel strategy. Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands should remain the conversion drivers, but DSP and Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC) are where smarter advertisers are building an edge. DSP retargeting lets you re-engage shoppers who viewed your listings but didn’t convert; AMC lets you map the actual shopper journey so you understand which touchpoints are driving conversion, which is critical when CPCs are elevated and every pound of budget needs to work harder.

This means those who leaned into DSP got significantly more reach for their budget than in 2024 (Krupa, 2025). Separately, data also found that full-funnel exposure across the pre-event, event, and post-event phases drove purchase rates 119% higher than Prime Day-only exposure (Wolny, 2026).

Don’t ignore the post-event window

In our experience, the days after Prime Day are consistently underexploited. Competition in the ad auction eases while a meaningful pool of warm, event-exposed shoppers continues browsing and comparing. DSP retargeting of non-converters during this window is often some of the most efficient spend of the entire Prime Day cycle. The sales velocity generated during the event also feeds Amazon’s algorithm, and Best Sellers’ Rank (BSR) improvements earned during those four days can sustain improved organic rankings for weeks, delivering returns that extend well beyond the event itself.

The Basics Still Matter

Listings need keyword-rich titles, clear bullet points, and high-quality images. With AI tools like Amazon’s Rufus now influencing product discovery, Adobe reported a 3,300% year-over-year surge in generative AI traffic to retail sites during Prime Day 2025 (Perez, 2025). Thus, listings that clearly answer the buying question will have a growing advantage.

Stock needs to already be in FBA. The June date shift compressed the preparation timeline significantly. A stock-out during Prime Day pauses your ads and damages organic rankings that take weeks to rebuild.

Reference pricing: Amazon’s strikethrough pricing requires a consistent price history of at least 30 days. If you haven’t established your reference price by now, the visual impact of your deal (e.g. the crossed-out original price) won’t display. Inflating prices beforehand to manufacture a larger discount won’t work; Amazon’s system simply won’t show the strikethrough.

Our View

Prime Day 2026 is harder than it’s been in previous years, impacted by higher CPCs, thinner margins, a compressed timeline, and a competitive set that now extends well beyond Amazon’s own platform. The brands that perform well won’t necessarily be the ones with the biggest budgets. They’ll be the ones that structured their campaigns before the surge, spent smartly in the pre-event window, paced their budget across four days, and thought about what happens after the event ends.

The runway to Prime Day is short, but there’s still time to make a difference.
